A Summerland Key man was arrested on Sunday after he dragged a woman down a gravel road using her car, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerome Lee Fenner, 40, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, driving with a suspended license and DUI.
Deputies responded to Summerland Key around 12:30 a.m. in response to a domestic battery report. En route, deputies were advised that the suspect had stolen the victim’s vehicle. After spotting the vehicle, deputies detained Fenner. Deputies conducted a field sobriety test due to his appearance, which he failed. He admitted to having had “a couple beers” and also admitted to not having a valid driver’s license, according to the report.
Deputies arrested Fenner and transported him to the Monroe County Detention Center.
While at the jail, a deputy spoke to the victim, who told them that she was watching a movie with her son when Fenner, her ex-boyfriend, entered the home without permission. According to the report, Fenner hit her in the head, took the keys to her vehicle and tried to leave. The victim then tried to enter the passenger side of the vehicle, but Fenner kept driving, resulting in the victim being dragged along the street. She let go, but Fenner stopped, turned around and began to drive toward her. She ultimately had to jump out of the way, for fear of Fenner running over her.
The victim suffered severe road rash on her hands, elbows and knees; however, she declined transport to the hospital.
Fenner is being held with a bond of $76,000.
