The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Plantation man on Saturday for possession of more than two ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms and more than three ounces of marijuana, after receiving several reports of a reckless driver.
Michael Allen Holt, 46, was charged with DUI, possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
Around 4:17 p.m., a deputy on patrol received numerous complaints of a reckless driver going southbound on U.S. 1, with callers saying the driver was going to get someone hurt. The deputy spotted the vehicle, a black Ford Mustang, near Mile Marker 56, and immediately noticed that the vehicle was tailgating others and making dangerous maneuvers.
According to the report, other vehicles pulled over and let the deputy get behind the Mustang, which was drifting into the oncoming lane and continuing to tailgate. The deputy performed a traffic stop and ordered the driver, later identified as Holt, to roll down his window twice.
Eventually, the driver’s side door opened, and the deputy saw Holt seemingly struggle to figure out how to roll down his window. According to the report, Holt’s movements were delayed and sluggish.
Backup arrived, and the deputies noticed the strong odor of marijuana, but Holt denied any drugs being in the car.
One deputy conducted a field sobriety test, which Holt failed, while the other searched his vehicle. Inside, the deputy found a plastic container with more than two ounces of the mushrooms, as well as four separate containers of marijuana, labeled with the names of strains like “Orange Cookies,” “Gorilla Glue,” and “Mint Cookies.” A large amount of rolling papers, a grinder and a digital scale were also found.
Deputies arrested Holt and transported him to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a bail of $56,000.
