The Key Colony Beach Police Department arrested a man with several outstanding warrants on Saturday, after he initially gave them a fake ID.
Jorge Jose Portillo, 48, was charged with providing a false ID, driving with a suspended license, resisting an officer without violence, and using another person’s driver’s license. He also was arrested for two warrants from Hillsborough County for failure to pay child support, and a third warrant from Orange County for violation of probation.
Around 8:30 p.m., an officer was patrolling Key Colony Beach when he spotted a vehicle with broken license-plate lights driving on Sadowski Causeway. The officer conducted a traffic stop and met with the driver, who identified himself as Roberto Portillo Hernandez. Portillo also provided a Florida ID with the same name.
However, a check in the system revealed his real name, and showed that his driver’s license was suspended in 2003. Furthermore, the identity check revealed the existence of the three arrest warrants.
Portillo stated he gave a fake name and license because he knew his license was suspended. He also was aware of the arrest warrants.
The officer transported Portillo to the Monroe County Detention Center without incident.
