The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Ellicott City, Maryland man on Monday for DUI and drug possession after spotting him speeding on U.S. 1.
Dennis W. Wright, 54, was charged with DUI, possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of paraphernalia.
Around 3:10 a.m., deputies spotted a truck traveling northbound on U.S. 1 at a high rate of speed near Mile Marker 7. The deputy clocked the truck going 85 mph in a 55 mph zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, where he identified the driver as Wright.
According to the report, the deputy immediately smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Wright. Wright stated he had just left a bar, where he had two beers. The deputy informed Wright he would be conducting a field sobriety test and Wright agreed. However, Wright proceeded to fail all three components of the test.
Deputies then proceeded to search Wright’s vehicle, where they found a small amount of marijuana and a pipe concealed within a Marlboro cigarette pack in the center console.
Wright was taken to the Marathon DUI room, where he ultimately refused to provide a breath sample. Wright was then taken to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held without bail.
