A Key Largo man was arrested on Sunday for drunk and disorderly conduct after he resisted arrest and attacked a deputy.
Steve Page Kendrick, 37, was charged with resisting an officer with violence, resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct.
Around 3:43 a.m., a concerned citizen anonymously reported a man sleeping in his car near Musa Street in Key Largo, where he had the engine running, lights on and door open. A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded, and found Kendrick sleeping. After waking him, Kendrick stumbled out of his car, showing clear signs of intoxication, according to reports.
While the deputy tried to determine the driver’s identity, Kendrick began to stumble around the street and ultimately began to walk away, despite the officer telling him to stop. The officer attempted to detain Kendrick, but he pulled away violently from him and continued walking. Once he noticed the officer following him, Kendrick began to run.
The deputy caught up to him and attempted to detain him, but Kendrick swung around and punched the deputy in the chest with both hands. Following this, the deputy used his stun gun to shock Kendrick, who then went to the ground.
Kendrick was taken to Mariners Hospital, where he was medically cleared. He was then arrested and transported to the Plantation Key jail, where he was being held without bond.
