A Marathon man was arrested on Thursday after a concerned citizen noticed him asleep behind the wheel of a truck with children in the back seat.
Jason Edward Solomon was charged with child neglect/endangerment.
Around 6 p.m., a woman spotted Solomon in the parking lot of Community Cooperative Preschool. According to the report, Solomon was in the driver’s seat of the truck and appeared unresponsive, despite the fact that the truck was running. Also in the truck were two young children, ages 3 and 5, who were crying and trying to wake Solomon.
The woman removed the children, placed them in her own vehicle and then called 911 to report the issue. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded, and the mother of the children was contacted. The children, who were uninjured, were placed into her custody.
An MCSO deputy turned off the truck, and contacted medical personnel. Solomon appeared to have a substance in his nostrils, leading paramedics to use an anti-narcotic drug to revive him. He was then taken to the hospital to be medically cleared.
Solomon admitted to crushing three Percocet pills and snorting them, according to the report. He stated he remembered picking up the children and taking them to the pickup truck, but said he didn’t remember anything after that.
After being medically cleared, Solomon was taken to jail. The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
