A Key West man was arrested for DUI on Sunday after officers saw him driving his scooter on the wrong side of the roadway.

Andrew P. Davies, 55, was charged with DUI.

Around 9:15, a Key West Police Department officer was on patrol in Key West when he spotted a male driving a scooter in the wrong lane of traffic on Flagler Avenue. After making contact with the driver, the officer requested backup in order to conduct a DUI investigation.

The second officer arrived, and Davies stated he was going home from his company’s Christmas party on Harris Avenue. However, the officer noted that Davies actually lives on Harris. According to the report, Davies then spontaneously stated that he was a recovering alcoholic and that he hadn’t drank anything that night. Despite this, officers reported a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, as well as glassy eyes and slurred speech, according to reports.

Davies agreed to a field sobriety test, but he ultimately failed all three portions of the test. Officers then transported him to the Monroe County Detention Center’s DUI room, where he blew a .160 blood-alcohol level. At this point, Davies declined to speak any further with officers. Davies was placed in jail, where he was being held without bond.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
