A North Miami Beach woman was arrested on Saturday after she allegedly threw a coconut at a man for filming her on Duval Street.
Shonta Latasha Bolds, 36, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Around 1:12 a.m., Key West Police Department officers responded to the VIP Gentleman’s Club on Duval Street after receiving a call about an assault. Officers met with the victim, who stated he was walking north on Duval Street and filming on his phone. As he passed the VIP Club, the victim said “ladies” and continued to walk. However, a woman on the porch of the club, later identified as Bolds, began cursing and threatening the victim, according to the report.
The victim continued to walk away from the location, but Bolds reportedly began to walk toward him and continued to yell insults at him. At some point, Bolds allegedly threw a coconut at the victim, although it didn’t hit him. Officers reviewed the footage captured by the victim, which corroborated his story.
Bolds told officers that she did throw a coconut at the victim, but added that it didn’t hit him. She stated the victim provoked her by filming her. Officers explained that she did not have any expectation of privacy when sitting on the front porch of the club, and that anyone could film that location at will.
Bolds was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center. She was released later the same day.
