KEY LARGO — A 37-year-old man accused of burglary and theft was arrested Thursday night, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Steven Walters of Key Largo was charged with burglary and grand theft.
A man called the Sheriff’s Office at 11:30 p.m. to report he saw a man take a fishing rod and reel from his uncle’s rental vehicle, parked on 2nd Court, reports say.
He said when he confronted the man he knew as a neighbor, Walters, Walters dropped the rod and reel and fled the area, reports say.
He said he knew Walters because Walters lives on an adjacent street and sometimes walks around the neighborhood. He pointed out Walter’s house. At the time, Walters was standing on the front porch of the house.
He identified Walters as the suspect, reports say.
Walters denied stealing the items, and said he’d been in his house all day before he was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Plantation Key.
