A Key West man was arrested Saturday after an officer found him sleeping in the bushes and a subsequent search revealed nearly an ounce of marijuana.
Kenneth Paul Griffy, 63, was charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession with intent to sell and possession of paraphernalia. He was also cited for breaking the city ordinance on camping.
Around 4:05 a.m., a Key West Police Department officer was on patrol on Simonton Street when he spotted a man sleeping in the bushes nearby. The officer approached him, woke him up and was able to identify him as Griffy, according to the report. Griffy was reportedly sleeping on a yoga mat with a backpack underneath being used as a pillow.
The officer noted Griffy has been recently warned about camping infractions, and he also noted KOTS is not at full capacity. He then detained Griffy and searched him, locating a wooden marijuana grinder and two plastic baggies with a total of 27.7 grams of marijuana.
Due to the marijuana being in two separate packages, Griffy was charged with intent to sell.
He was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a $10,000 bond.
