MARATHON — A 46-year-old fisherman accused of hitting a family member while holding a knife during an argument Wednesday night was arrested, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Vladimir Paredes was charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery. Third-degree felonies are punishable by a maximum of five years in state prison upon conviction.

The alleged victim stated she did not wish to press charges, but deputies were able to find a knife that matched the description provided and made the arrest, according to arrest reports.

Deputies were called to the 7100 block of Overseas Highway late Wednesday night and found Paredes there, as well as other family members, one of whom told them that he was in his bedroom when he heard some commotion and left to see another family member push Paredes, reports say.

Two other people in the apartment told deputies that Paredes slapped and pushed the alleged victim and at one point grabbed a steak knife and threatened the same person, reports say.

Paredes was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center in Marathon.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
