The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Torch Key man on Wednesday after he broke into a trailer on Big Pine Key.

Christopher Holden Calvert, 31, is being charged with burglary and damage to property.

According to the police report, deputies initially responded to a report on Nathalie Road on June 2, where they found a locked door forced open. The door appeared to have dents resulting from punches, and the door frame was cracked inward. Inside, a refrigerator also had several dents that appeared to come from someone’s fist. The owner of the trailer estimated the damages to be about $1,000.

A neighbor reported hearing a man yelling and “banging around” inside the trailer the night before. A second neighbor reported noises from the same trailer the previous night, as well. He later found a cell phone on his steps the next morning. The owner of the phone, later identified as Calvert, called the phone and came back to retrieve it. This allowed the neighbor to describe the vehicle Calvert was in, according to the report.

Deputies later found the vehicle at Calvert’s residence, and Calvert admitted to being at the trailer on the night of the incident. He appeared to be drunk when he met with the deputies, and he also admitted to being highly intoxicated when he was at the trailer. Calvert said he was there looking for a woman, but she apparently no longer lives there. He denied damaging the trailer.

Deputies secured a warrant for his arrest, and he was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $30,000 bond.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
