The Key West Police Department arrested a Key West man on Wednesday for stealing cash from his employer.

Josvanni Israel Lopez, 19, was charged with grand theft over $300.

Officers met with a loss prevention specialist for the K-Mart on North Roosevelt Boulevard, who reported that he caught Lopez stealing money from his cash register. According to the report, Lopez stole an estimated $720 over the last few months, with $458 of that being stolen within the last 10 days.

Lopez admitted to stealing the money, although his estimate was $700. When officers asked why he stole the money, Lopez replied that it was “temptation.”

Officers arrested Lopez and transported him to the Monroe County Detention Center without incident, where he was being held without bail.
