The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Key Largo woman on Thursday for drug possession and driving with a suspended license.
Around 10 a.m., an MCSO deputy spotted a vehicle registered to an owner with a suspended license traveling northbound on U.S. 1. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and met with Magdalena Soutelo Rodriguez, 50. According to the police report, Soutelo Rodriguez admitted her license was suspended, but stated that she was on her way to Miami to pay for an outstanding ticket.
After checking her license status, deputies determined that Soutelo Rodriguez had two prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.
Deputies transported her to the Plantation Key jail without incident. However, upon arrival, deputies found a small bag of cocaine in her purse.
“It was not mine; I bought the purse at the Salvation Army,” said Soutelo Rodriguez, according to the police report.
Soutelo Rodriguez was charged with possession of cocaine, introducing contraband into a detention facility and third offense of driving with a suspended license.
