Caught soapy-handed

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fat Deer Key man on Tuesday after he stole and damaged the property of his boyfriend, after he found his boyfriend with a woman.

Nicholas S. Golden, 21, was charged with damaging property and petit theft.

Around 3:17 a.m., deputies responded to a reported burglary in Marathon. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who stated he was in the shower with a woman when Golden began knocking on the bathroom door. Golden became upset and barged into the bathroom, where he began yelling at the victim and the woman.

Following this, Golden went to the victim’s bedroom and began destroying his belongings. According to the report, Golden took the victim’s cell phone and threw it out of the second story window. He then took the victim’s guitar and smashed it on the floor. According to the victim and a witness, Golden went on to destroy a lamp, a vase and a dresser. The estimated value of all the destroyed items was $940. Golden also reportedly stole two hats belonging to the victim. Golden then left the area in his own vehicle.

Deputies located Golden at his residence, where he confirmed that he found the victim and a woman in the shower together. He admitted to breaking a vase, as well as stealing the hats and the guitar, although he stated he didn’t know whether he broke the guitar.

Due to Golden’s admissions, the combined statements of the victim, the woman and the witness, deputies placed Golden under arrest. He was transported to the Plantation Key Jail, where he was being held on a bond of $5,500.
