The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Palm Beach, Florida man on Friday after he swallowed drugs in an attempt to hide them from deputies.
Ramon A. Muino, 27, was charged with possession of amphetamine, possession of marijuana and destroying evidence.
Around 11:20 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Muino and immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from both the vehicle and Muino’s breath. Deputies noticed small pieces of a “green leafy substance” that they believed to be marijuana on his lap.
Deputies ordered Muino out of the vehicle for a pat down. During the search, Muino did not respond to any questions, leading deputies to believe that he was concealing something in his mouth.
According to the report, Muino was concealing marijuana in his right cheek. When this was discovered, Muino attempted to swallow it, but had difficulty. He ultimately swallowed a portion of it, and spit out the rest. Deputies field tested the substance, and it tested positive for marijuana.
According to the report, Muino started to sweat profusely and turn pale. The arresting deputy believed he had ingested a large amount of either marijuana or some other narcotic, so emergency rescue was called to the scene. Shortly after, a paramedic recovered more marijuana from Muino’s mouth.
Muino was then transported to the Lower Keys Medical Center, where paramedics found “a small crystal rock like substance” on Muino’s shirt, which paramedics said Muino spat out. The substance was field tested and came back positive for amphetamine.
Muino was transported to the Monroe County Detention Center following medical clearance by the hospital. He was released on Saturday night.
