The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Key Largo woman for possession of heroin and cocaine on Thursday, following a traffic stop near Mile Marker 96.

Tobyia Lynn Bocook, 36, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Around 12:10 a.m., a Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. 1 with broken tag lights, rendering the license plate unreadable. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, a passenger and Bocook.

According to the report, the deputy immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy requested backup, and ultimately detained the three occupants. Deputies asked if they would find any narcotics in the vehicle, but the driver stated “No, I smoked earlier.”

Following this, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside, they located a purse in the back seat that contained a baggie with a light brown substance that field tested for heroin. Bocook, who was riding in the back seat, claimed the purse. However, she stated the heroin wasn’t hers.

Another deputy searched the driver, and turned up a baggie with a white residue inside, but there wasn’t enough of the substance to field test. Both the driver and the other passenger were released at the scene, and the driver was issued a warning for the broken tag lights.

Deputies then placed Bocook under arrest, and asked her if she had any other illegal substances. According to the report, Bocook stated there might be cocaine in her bag, but due to low lighting, deputies couldn’t find it. They later found the cocaine after searching her at jail.

Deputies transported Bocook to the Plantation Key jail, where she was being held without bond.
