The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Riverview, Florida man on Friday for DUI and drug possession after pulling him over for erratic driving.

Geoffrey E. Knutson, 40, was charged with DUI and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Around 1:30 a.m., a deputy spotted Knutson driving erratically near the Marathon Ale House. Knutson made abrupt lane changes, failed to stop at a red light and continuously straddled the lane divider.

The deputy pulled over Knutson and asked for his driver’s license. Knutson then handed the deputy two credit cards. The deputy informed him that his driver’s license was clearly on the other side of his wallet, according to the report.

During his interaction with Knutson, the deputy noted that Knutson had heavily slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The deputy asked Knutson to step out of the vehicle repeatedly, and on the third request, Knutson complied. However, Knutson “almost fell out of the truck and fell backwards into the truck,” according to the report.

Knutson then refused to participate in a field sobriety test, leading the deputy to arrest him for DUI. During the subsequent search of his vehicle, the deputy located a vapor pen containing a substance that later field tested positive for THC. Knutson denied knowing anything about the pen.

Knutson was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held without bail.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
