The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Key Largo man on Saturday, following an investigation into a high-speed chase on U.S. in June.
Bryan Patrick Dozier was charged with fleeing/eluding law enforcement.
On June 25, a witness reported a dark colored vehicle traveling over 100 mph going southbound on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 118. A deputy spotted the vehicle, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver didn’t stop. A chase ensued, but the deputy terminated his pursuit due to safety concerns. Shortly after, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper saw the same vehicle going northbound. The driver was continuing to drive at high speeds, and that chase was ended for safety reasons as well.
The same witness who made the initial report called MCSO again about 20 minutes after the first call to report finding a bag containing almost four ounces of marijuana. The witness stated that he believed the suspect threw the bag from his vehicle. Dozier has not been charged with any marijuana-related crimes.
MCSO detectives began to investigate, conducting interviews and gathering video footage from businesses in the vicinity of the chase. The vehicle’s tag information ultimately led to Dozier. However, Dozier’s lawyer declined any interviews. A warrant was filed for Dozier’s cell phone, which ultimately revealed that Dozier was in the area where both the witness’ statement and the chases took place. Text messages found on his phone also seemed to implicate Dozier in the crime. Deputies arrested Dozier and transported him to the Plantation Key jail, where he was being held on a bond of $15,000. He was released the following day after posting bail.
