The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fort Lauderdale man on Tuesday for a DUI after a concerned citizen reported that the driver was swerving as they were driving.

Nathaniel Blaine Treadway, 21, was charged with DUI, driving without a license, possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of paraphernalia.

Deputies responded to the report and located a vehicle stationary at a stop sign that matched the description provided by the witness. According to the report, it was immediately apparent that Treadway was intoxicated in some form or fashion. Treadway explained that he was stopped at the stop sign because he was looking for his lighter. However, his physical appearance and “erratic” demeanor gave deputies cause for concern.

A deputy asked Treadway if he’d been drinking, and Treadway stated he hadn’t consumed any alcohol. However, he did admit to smoking marijuana earlier and pointed out the remainder of a marijuana cigarette near the center console. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found another marijuana cigarette, as well as more marijuana. Furthermore, they recovered a glass pipe with white residue inside.

Following the search, deputies asked Treadway if he would perform a field sobriety test, to which he agreed. Treadway ultimately failed the sobriety test. Despite this, a later breath test confirmed he hadn’t consumed any alcohol.

Treadway was arrested and transported to the Plantation Key jail, where he was being held without bail.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
