BIG COPPITT KEY — A 50-year-old drunken man formerly of Minnesota accused of throwing a woman to the ground and kicking her in the face was arrested early Friday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Marvin Van Puymbrouck of Big Coppitt Key was charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery causing bodily harm, the maximum punishment for which includes a year in county jail and up to $1,000 in fines upon conviction.
Deputies were called to a house on Sirius Lane at 12:35 a.m. where a man told them a female neighbor came to his house after she was beaten up by another man, reports say.
The woman told deputies Van Puymbrouck was fixing a hole in the wall he had punched earlier when he became angry again and accused her of cheating on him, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
She told deputies he grabbed her by the throat and hit her with a closed fist before she left the house, reports say. She returned out of fear for her dog, when he confronted her, grabbed her, threw her to the ground and kicked and punched her numerous times, reports say.
Deputies noted in reports her injuries were consistent with her story.
They then contacted Van Puymbrouck who appeared drunk and declined to answer questions without a lawyer. He was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island where he was initially booked under no bail.
