KEY WEST — A couple hawking shrimp via Facebook without a saltwater dealer license were pinched over the weekend by a deputy who saw the sales online, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Iliecer Noa, 41, and his wife, Carolina Aviles, 37, both of Key West, were cited for having no saltwater dealer license and failing to keep required records when selling saltwater products.
Deputy Seth Hopp saw the Facebook posts by the couple offering five pound bags of shrimp for $40. Hopp checked with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to see if either person had the proper license to sell saltwater products and neither one had any commercial fishing licenses, reports say.
Hopp went to their residence on North Roosevelt Boulevard and the couple said they bought a 70 pound bag of shrimp for $80 from a guy riding a bicycle on Stock Island, reports say. They made a total of $300 selling the shrimp, reports say.
They reportedly said they had planned to return to Stock Island and buy more so they could keep selling shrimp. Hopp then cited both.
