Illegal passing nets jail for woman, man

A Hollywood, Florida woman and a Charleston, South Carolina man were pulled over on Saturday after illegally passing another vehicle on U.S. 1, leading to the woman’s arrest for possession of marijuana.

Taylor Koval Lewis, 22, was charged with possession of marijuana under 20 grams, three counts of possession of synthetic marijuana and three counts of possession of paraphernalia. Wellsin Guild Price was charged with possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Around 8:07 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy was traveling on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 82 when he spotted a vehicle passing another car via the center lane. The deputy conducted a traffic stop, met with the driver and immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

According to the report, the driver, Lewis, admitted to having marijuana in the car after a few moments. Once backup arrived, deputies searched the vehicle. Lewis directed the deputies to the trunk, where she revealed a mason jar with 16.3 grams of marijuana hidden in the spare tire compartment. There was also a pre-rolled marijuana cigarette, a grinder, three THC cartridges and a vapor pen. The various items field tested positive for THC.

Lewis and Price were transported to the Plantation Key jail, but were released shortly after.
