A Big Pine Key woman was arrested on Friday for a DUI after she sideswiped a vehicle on the Seven-Mile Bridge.
Yvonne Victoria Fassett, 61, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, DUI and DUI with property damage.
Around 3 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were advised that a vehicle sideswiped another vehicle on the bridge and continued without stopping. Shortly after, a deputy spotted a white van with extensive damage to its passenger side. The front passenger tire, the passenger side mirror and a door handle were all missing from the vehicle.
A traffic stop was conducted, and deputies met with Fassett. She stated she was aware that she hit the vehicle, but didn’t stop because she was scared and it was dark in that area. According to the report, deputies noticed that she seemed intoxicated, due to balance problems and erratic actions.
Fassett agreed to participate in a field sobriety test, but ultimately failed two components of it and refused to participate in the third. Deputies placed her under arrest and transported her to the DUI room at the Monroe County Detention Center. She provided a breath sample, which showed her blood alcohol level to be around .15.
Fassett was placed in jail, where she was being held without bond.
