A Key West man was charged with drunken driving on Wednesday after he crashed his truck through a fence and into another vehicle.
Keegan Michael Hungerford, 29, was charged with DUI with property damage.
Around 2:54 a.m., Key West Police Department officers responded to a reported crash on White Street, where they found a GMC truck had driven off the road, through a fence and into a Porsche parked on the other side.
According to the report, Hungerford was standing in the street at the location when officers arrived. Hungerford stated he had been downtown earlier in the night, but he had gotten into a fight with his wife and left for the night. As he was driving down White Street, his wife called his cellphone. Hungerford stated this distracted him and caused him to crash.
While explaining the events, officers noticed he was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. Hungerford ultimately admitted to being intoxicated, stating he had four mixed drinks containing rum downtown at the Tutu Tuesday party. The investigating officer asked if he would perform a field sobriety test, but Hungerford repeatedly asked to “just talk” to the officer.
The officer arrested Hungerford for DUI, and transported him to the Monroe County Detention Center. There, Hungerford’s breath sample showed a blood alcohol level of .174. He was placed in jail, where he was being held without bond.
