A Jupiter, Florida man was arrested for DUI this week after he accidentally drove his car off the road near the Bahia Honda Bridge.
Anthony Luke Zuccarelli, 30, was charged Tuesday with DUI with property damage, second refusal of blood alcohol test and violating driver’s license restrictions.
Around 6 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Mile Marker 34.5 near the Bahia Honda Bridge after receiving a report of a wrecked vehicle with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies found Zuccarelli outside the vehicle, which had run off the road. An eyewitness provided a statement confirming Zuccarelli was the one driving the vehicle.
Zuccarelli told officers he must have fallen asleep, causing his car to go off the road. He also said it was his friend’s vehicle that he was driving. However, Zuccarelli has a court order that mandates he use an interlock ignition device, otherwise known as a “blow and go,” before driving.
According to the report, deputies decided to conduct their investigation as a potential DUI. However, Zuccarelli failed each component of the field sobriety test. He was arrested and taken to the DUI room, where he refused to provide a breath sample. However, deputies noted he was cooperative and polite throughout the ordeal.
Zuccarelli was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a $15,000 bond.
