A 51-year-old Marathon man was arrested Thursday for using someone else’s credit cards at area businesses.

Oreste Medina was charged with larceny and illegal use of credit cards.

The investigation began on Sept. 28 when the victim went to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marathon substation to report losing his wallet along U.S. 1 sometime in the immediate days prior. The wallet contained two credit cards.

Detectives Amanda Coleman and Mario Benedetti used bank information provided by the victim, an array of security camera footage at local businesses and a tip from a cashier to identify Medina as the suspect in this case.

Most of the illegal transactions were alcohol and cigarette purchases at gas stations and pharmacies.

A warrant was issued, and Medina was booked into jail on Thursday.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
