A Homestead, Florida man was arrested last week for a variety of charges after deputies spotted him driving a car with a license plate that was reported stolen.
Sean Antonio Jimenez, 30, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license, failure to register a vehicle and attaching a non-assigned license plate.
Around noon on Tuesday, Nov. 29, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on patrol when they received an alert for a vehicle with a stolen tag. Shortly after, a deputy spotted a silver Toyota driving southbound on U.S. 1 with a tag registered to a Chevy truck.
Backup arrived, and deputies had the driver, identified as Jimenez, exit the vehicle. According to the report, one deputy could immediately smell marijuana inside the vehicle, and a search of the car revealed approximately 1 gram of marijuana and two bags of a “white rock-like substance” that field tested positive for cocaine.
Jimenez admitted to knowing the tag didn’t belong to his vehicle, but said he didn’t know it was stolen. According to the report, Jimenez told deputies he had purchased the car two days earlier from a man in Florida City. However, the passenger stated that Jimenez had owned the car for two months. Jimenez further claimed he had no knowledge of the drugs in the car, but he did state that the passenger was just riding with him and had nothing to do with any of the charges. The passenger was released at the scene without any charges.
Jimenez was arrested and transported to the Plantation Key jail, where he was being held on a $27,500 bond.
