A Deltona, Florida man was arrested on Sunday after he interfered with deputies conducting a DUI investigation on the man with whom he was riding.
Nicholas Allen Gannon, 28, was charged with threats against an officer, resisting an officer without violence and tampering in a misdemeanor proceeding.
Around 1:33 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle traveling on U.S. 1 after they clocked it traveling 90 mph. During the stop, Gannon, a passenger in the vehicle, got out of the car because he said he needed fresh air. However, when deputies began to conduct a DUI investigation, Gannon began to shout at the driver to not cooperate with the investigation.
According to the report, deputies repeatedly instructed Gannon to step aside and stop interfering, but he became increasingly agitated. This ultimately led them to detain him, and deputies placed him in the patrol car. However, from there, Gannon continued to be aggressive, and he began to scream, shout and kick the patrol car door.
After the investigation was over, deputies arrested Gannon for the tampering charge and took him to jail. Once there, Gannon reportedly began issuing threats to the deputies, stating he would harm them and their families, adding the additional charge.
Gannon was transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was held until Tuesday. He was released after posting his $5,000 bond.
