A Miami man was arrested on Wednesday at a Key West motel after staff found him screaming profanity and throwing objects while intoxicated.
Victor Manuel Martes, 35, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.
Around 10:15 a.m., Key West Police Department officers responded to the Harbor Side Motel on Eisenhower Drive after motel staff reported Martes’ activity. According to the report, the manager stated Martes had been walking around the property screaming profanities, and later he had started pounding on the door to a room. The occupants of the room did not know Martes.
The manager then said he confronted Martes, but he continued to scream and even began to throw chairs at the manager, although he was never hit by them. Officers started to detain Martes, who they described as appearing intoxicated, with red eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath. Martes became more belligerent as officers detained him, and he began to resist arrest by tensing his body and pushing the officers away.
Once Martes was in the patrol vehicle, he began to offer officers money to let him go. After they refused, he began to issue threats, telling them he would kill them. Even once he was in jail, he attempted to offer corrections deputies money to let him go, and again threatened to hurt them once they refused.
Martes was transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a $40,000 bond.
