A failure to stop at a stop sign landed a Marathon man in jail on Wednesday after deputies found marijuana and prescription pills in his vehicle.
David John Gallagher, 37, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a new legend drug without a prescription.
Around 11 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol in Marathon when he spotted a vehicle run the stop sign at the intersection of 41st Street and U.S. 1. The deputy pulled the vehicle over and met with the driver, identified as Gallagher, and explained the reason for the stop. While speaking with him, the deputy reported smelling “fresh marijuana” and called for backup.
According to the report, a Border Patrol K9 unit arrived, and the K9 alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. In a subsequent search, the deputy found a bag with approximately 13.9 grams of marijuana, three cartridges containing THC oil, an e-cigarette, two Cialis pills and three unidentified white capsules. Gallagher also reportedly admitted to having a fourth cartridge in his pocket.
The evidence, including the unknown pills, were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for further analysis.
Gallagher was arrested and transported to the Marathon jail, where he was being held without bond.
