A Marathon woman was arrested on Friday for battery after she allegedly got into a fight with her roommate over smoking in their apartment.
Vanessa Blackwell, 25, was charged with battery.
Around 1:58 a.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an apartment complex in Marathon after receiving a report of a disturbance. According to the police report, deputies met with the reporting party, identified as Blackwell, who stated she got into an argument with her roommate over something so petty, she wasn’t even sure what it was. According to Blackwell, at some point the victim pointed her finger at her, leading Blackwell to push her away.
However, deputies spoke with the victim, who showed deputies scratch marks and a minor abrasion to her neck. The victim said Blackwell grabbed her by her neck and pushed her to the ground after she pointed her finger at her.
The victim also stated that the argument was because Blackwell and another roommate were smoking inside the apartment, which isn’t allowed. Blackwell and the other roommate reportedly left after the argument, but Blackwell returned later, after which the physical altercation occurred.
Deputies determined Blackwell was the primary aggressor and placed her under arrest. She was transported to the Marathon jail, where she was being held without bond.
