A Key West woman was arrested Tuesday on drug-related charges after officers spotted her driving recklessly on Duval Street.
Jeanette Lisa Brown, 47, was charged with possession of marijuana under 20 grams, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.
Around 8:20 p.m., a Key West Police Department officer was patrolling Duval Street when he spotted a car pass a minivan at a high rate of speed. The officer pulled over the car and met with the driver, identified as Brown, who admitted she was driving fast because she was bringing food to her mother, according to the report.
As the officer was running Brown’s information, police dispatch informed him that the woman was on inmate release, and she had previously been arrested for drug charges. The officer asked her to step outside, and he subsequently had a K-9 unit respond to check the vehicle. The K-9 ultimately alerted to the presence of drugs in the car, and the resulting search revealed a small capsule with crack cocaine and a small metal pipe that tested positive for cocaine. As officers detained Brown, she reportedly dropped a small capsule that contained marijuana in it as well, which Brown stated had been in her pocket.
Brown was cited for careless driving and then arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where she was being held without bond.
