A Cutler Bay, Florida man was arrested Tuesday for doing contract work without a license after a woman reported that he failed to finish the repair work he was paid to do.
Alfonso Allen De La Cosa was charged with engaging in a contracting business without a certificate.
The victim explained to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives that she hired De La Cosa last fall to perform $10,359 in hurricane window and door repair work, according to MCSO. The victim gave De La Cosa her credit card information and agreed to purchase more windows and doors, which De La Cosa was supposed to sell. He promised the victim that she would make a profit off of this side venture.
However, workers eventually stopped showing up to her residence, and the work was left unfinished. Simultaneously, at least an additional $30,000 was charged to the woman’s account.
Detectives contacted state regulators, who in turn provided proof that De La Cosa was not legally licensed to perform the work. Detectives continued investigating and eventually obtained a warrant for De La Cosa’s arrest.
Deputies booked De La Cosa into jail, but he was released the same day after posting his $15,000 bond.
The victim stated she would be pursuing civil action against De La Cosa regarding the charges to her credit card.
