A Sugarloaf Key woman was arrested on Wednesday after deputies found crack cocaine in her vehicle during a traffic stop.
Michelle Calvo-Gonzalez, 54, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.
Around 11:15 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol on U.S. 1 when he saw a car drift off the roadway and onto the grass section of the shoulder before it swerved back into the lane and continued northbound. The deputy pulled over the vehicle and met with the driver, identified as Calvo-Gonzalez, and explained that he was making sure she was OK.
The deputy noted that she appeared anxious and unsteady. When asked there was anything illegal in the car, Calvo-Gonzalez replied “illegal, not that I would think, I just want to go home,” according to the report. The deputy called for a Key West Police Department K9 unit, which alerted to the presence of narcotics when it arrived.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputy found two pieces of suspected crack cocaine underneath the driver’s seat, two pill bottles with numerous pieces of suspected crack cocaine and a glass pipe that is “commonly used to smoke crack cocaine” with residue on it, according to the report.
The deputy arrested Calvo-Gonzalez and transported her to the Monroe County Detention Center, where she was being held without bond.
