A Marathon man was arrested Thursday on a warrant after he allegedly swung an oar at his neighbor and another man earlier in the month.
Leosvel Parrado Cordova, 42, was charged with two counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
Around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Boot Key Harbor in Marathon after receiving a report of a potential battery. The deputies met with the victim, a woman and man, who stated they were cleaning the woman’s boat when the woman’s neighbor rowed up next to them in a dinghy, according to the report.
The victims said the neighbor, later identified as Cordova, started shouting and making jokes. He then allegedly said “That’s my girl and I’ll get you,” according to the report. From there, the victims said Cordova swung a fiberglass oar at the two victims, with the woman adding she could feel the wind from the oar as it went by.
The oar missed both victims, but broke when it struck the boat and the splinters from the oar struck the woman, according to the report. The victims later identified Cordova, whom the woman knew only as her neighbor “Leosvel.”
Cordova was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a bond of $20,000.
