KEY WEST — A man asleep in bed with his wife was roused early Tuesday by a knock at the door to find an agitated Chicago man who proceeded to beat him about the face and then drag him across a New Town hotel room, according to police.

Robert Steven Tuttle, 55, was charged with third-degree felony battery, which carries a maximum punishment of five years in state prison upon conviction.

Police responded to the Hyatt Residence Club Key West, Windward Pointe, 3675 S. Roosevelt Blvd., at 2:30 a.m., where a security guard told them he heard commotion inside a room and went there to find the suspect, later identified as Tuttle, dragging a guest across the floor, reports say.

Officers went to the room to find the alleged victim bleeding heavily from the face with a black eye and multiple cuts to his face, reports say. The man said he awoke and answered the door to find Tuttle there who began attacking him for no reason.

The report doesn’t state if the two men know each other.

Tuttle was detained and he told officers the two had been drinking when the other man tried to hit him.

The other man’s wife told police they were in bed when Tuttle knocked on the door and then attacked her husband.

Tuttle was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
