STOCK ISLAND — A 35-year-old man accused of kicking a detention deputy multiple times in the groin was arrested Sunday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Candon Richard Criner of Key West was charged with third-degree felony battery on a firefighter, EMT or law enforcement officer, which is punishable by a maximum of five years in state prison upon conviction.

The arrest report does not state why Criner was brought to the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island at 4:40 a.m., reports say.

When a corrections deputy tried to pat Criner down, he reportedly kicked him twice in the groin, reports say.

The deputy ordered Criner to stand and face the wall when Criner said him that “he will not take anything from him and that he will not touch him,” reports say.

Criner was then reportedly placed in a restraint chair and was evaluated by a nurse.

He remains in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
