A 44-year-old Big Pine Key woman was arrested Monday morning on criminal charges stemming from squatting in a Big Pine Key man’s trailer while he was in jail and his pawning guitars and other items.

Mary Fayetta Adams Kidwell was charged with three counts of fraud, burglary and grand theft, according to sheriff’s spokesman Adam Linhardt.

The case began on May 25 when the victim’s son went to secure his father’s valuables on the 31000 block of Avenue C. The father had been arrested for DUI previously. The son arrived and found the door to the trailer open and female belongings scattered about. He also found several pill bottles with Kidwell’s name on them. The son found that his father’s Gibson guitar and case, Martin® guitar with case, Fender® guitar with case and a Gamo air rifle were all missing. Their total value was about $7,700, Linhardt said.

The victim was located in jail. He stated he knew Kidwell as she had “ripped him off” in the past, but they were not living together and she did not have permission to live in his trailer. He listed items of value in his trailer to include those stated above as well as a flat screen TV, Milwaukee tools and a computer, Linhardt said.

Lower Keys Sgt. David Fernandez and Detective John Gabay investigated.

Detective Gabay went to a pawn shop where the owner stated that between May 20 and May 23, Kidwell pawned a flat screen TV, a Martin guitar with case, Gibson guitar, an air rifle and Milwaukee tools. Warrants were issued for Kidwell’s arrest She was booked into jail on Monday.

Around 11 p.m., Key West Police Department officers responded to River Street Sweets on Duval Street after reports came in of a physical disturbance. On arrival, officers met with Pullara, who said she was just involved with a fight.

Pullara said the victim got in her face and pushed her, so she retaliated by punching the victim in the face, according to the report.
