ISLAMORADA — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office identified the construction worker stabbed Friday morning as 43-year-old Manuel Lopez of Miami.
Detectives charged his co-worker, Sergio Rivero, 30, also of Miami, with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that the men were en route to work at La Siesta Resort about 6:15 a.m. when Lopez began complaining about Rivero’s driving.
Rivero reportedly stopped near the entrance to the resort and stabbed Lopez in the chest with a knife.
Lopez was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center from Mariners Hospital with a chopper out of Miami-Dade County after one of the Trauma Star helicopters caught fire while landing at Coral Shores High School.
There were no injuries in that incident.
Rivero was detained at the scene.
Rivero was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Plantation Key where he remained Monday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
