The Key West Police Department arrested a Key West woman on Monday after she attacked her ex-girlfriend, stole a minor’s bike and then threatened officers.

Around 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a report that a woman was starting fights with people in the area of Catherine and Duval streets. According to the report, after arriving on scene officers met with a witness who said that Gina Ludes Hernandez, 42, was hiding behind a tree nearby.

According to the report, officers located Hernandez, who stepped out from behind the tree. However, Hernandez immediately became uncooperative, refusing to sit on the curb or pull her hands from her pocket. Eventually, Hernandez pulled out a knife and held it behind her back. One officer said he could hear the knife clicking as she opened and closed it.

One officer pulled out his stun gun, while another grabbed Hernandez’ and handcuffed her. As he was doing this, Hernandez threw the knife to the ground behind her. Throughout this ordeal, Hernandez repeatedly refused to cooperate and made threats towards the officers.

One witness met with the officers and reported that Hernandez tried to instigate a fight with two minors before stealing one of their bikes to run away. However, Hernandez fell off the bike and the witness went to recover it for the minors. Hernandez then punched the witness across the face and ran away. He followed her and called the police.

Meanwhile, another victim spoke with officers about Hernandez’ actions earlier in the day. According to the report, the victim said she was Hernandez’ ex-girlfriend, and she reported that Hernandez was harassing her while she was working a booth on Duval. Hernandez approached her booth angrily out of nowhere and started throwing items off of the booth. She then punched the victim in her head, pushed her and ran away.

The ex-girlfriend agreed to pursue charges against Hernandez, while the witness and the two minors declined to do so.

Police charged Hernandez with battery and assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon. She was transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where she is currently being held without bond.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
