The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Stock Island man on Saturday after finding nearly an ounce of crystal meth, a small amount of weed and paraphernalia.

According to the report, a deputy was on patrol around 12:30 a.m. when he spotted a vehicle that failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign on 5th Street and MacDonald Avenue on Stock Island. After conducting a traffic stop, the deputy identified the driver as 27-year-old Leander Martin Rahming. A passenger was also in the vehicle, but she was never charged.

Knowing Rahming from previous encounters, the deputy called in a Key West Police Department K9 unit. Upon arrival, the K9 unit gave a positive alert for drugs in the vehicle near the driver’s side, and the deputy conducted a search of the vehicle.

In between the driver’s seat and the center console, the deputy found an orange container with two clear baggies with 26.8 grams of crystal meth. They also found a .9 grams of marijuana and a digital scale commonly used to weigh narcotics for sale.

Both Rahming and the passenger denied possession of any of the contraband, but due to the location of the drugs, the deputy believed there was probable cause that Rahming had been in possession of them.

Rahming was charged with possession of methamphetamine over 14 grams, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

Deputies transported Rahming to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held without bond.

Information in the Crime Report is obtained from reports provided by area law enforcement agencies.
