The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Marathon man on Tuesday for possession of more than 14 ounces of marijuana after they found him seemingly passed out in his vehicle.
Nicholas Wade Shoemaker, 29, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana over 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy was on patrol when he noticed a vehicle parked with its high beam headlights on. Upon closer inspection, the deputy saw Shoemaker slumped over the steering wheel with his foot on the brake. Concerned that there was a possible medical issue or DUI in progress, the deputy approached the vehicle, and immediately noticed a digital scale, a box of plastic baggies, a large amount of cash and the smell of marijuana inside the vehicle.
The deputy had Shoemaker exit the vehicle, where he was detained for drug possession with intent to sell. According to the report, the search of the vehicle that followed revealed $675 dollars, 402 grams of marijuana, as well as the aforementioned baggies and digital scale. The majority of the marijuana was found inside a locked safe in the vehicle.
Shoemaker claimed he was waiting on his sister to “hang out for a little bit,” and denied that the drugs or paraphernalia were his, despite the fact that the deputy found his social security card and other items with his name on it inside the safe.
Shoemaker was arrested and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, where he was being held on a bond of $85,000.
