The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Tavernier woman on Sunday after she attacked another woman with a baseball bat.
Michelle Diane Rogers, 49, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, damaging property over $200 and giving a false ID to a law enforcement officer.
Around 11:50 p.m., deputies were dispatched to West Indies Road in Key Largo in reference to a disturbance between two women. Deputies met with the victim, who stated that Rogers attacked her with a bat after she showed up to Rogers’ boyfriend’s house.
According to the report, the victim received a bruise to her arm. The victim further stated that Rogers then struck the victim’s vehicle with the bat.
Deputies met with Rogers, who initially provided the wrong name and birth date to deputies. She reiterated this information twice. Rogers then claimed that the victim had previously burgled the residence, and that a police report could confirm that she was trespassed from the property. Rogers went on to say that she did not own a bat, nor did she use one to attack the victim.
However, a check with the MCSO systems revealed Rogers’ real name and birth date. Furthermore, deputies confirmed that no such report or trespass warning exists in reference to the victim.
Deputies then spoke with a witness, who stated she saw the two women arguing. She also stated seeing Rogers shoving what appeared to be a stick into the victim’s vehicle, and later striking the victim’s vehicle with the stick.
Rogers was arrested and transported to the Plantation Key jail, where she was being held without bail.
