After being stopped for expired tags, a Hialeah, Florida man was arrested for multiple drug-related charges on Wednesday.

Jose Arley Diaz, 22, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana over 20 grams and two counts of possession of paraphernalia.

Around 3:30 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on traffic enforcement duty next to Key Largo Elementary School when he spotted a vehicle with an expired tag. According to the report, the deputy immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and he also noticed small pieces of marijuana throughout the vehicle.

The deputy searched the vehicle, where he found 25.8 grams of marijuana, two marijuana cigarettes, 4.1 grams of cocaine, 100 small baggies commonly used to sell drugs and $225 in cash.

Diaz was taken to the Plantation Key jail, where he was being held without bond. Diaz’s charges received enhancements due to his proximity to the school.
