Sex offender arrested for failure to notify

STOCK ISLAND — A 33-year-old registered sex offender accused of failure to let law enforcement know where he was staying was arrested Wednesday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. 

James Brien Williams, listed as homeless, but formerly of Jacksonville, was charged with third-degree felony failure to register as a sex offender, a third-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in state prison upon conviction. 

He remained at the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island on Friday under no bail. 

Williams was released from state prison in 2015 after serving a two-year sentence for sexual battery in Gadsden County, Florida. 

Predator registered 

KEY LARGO — A man designated as a sexual predator has registered his address in Key Largo, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.  

By state law, the Sheriff’s Office is required to notify the public when a person designated by the courts as a sexual predator registers a new address in the county.

Julio Martinez, 56, registered his address as 816 Narragansett Lane in Key Largo.

He is currently serving 10 years of supervision for lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12.
